$1,000 Referral Bonus
As a Newark Board of Education employee, we believe you know better than anyone who can be successful here. You can speak to why our schools are a great place to work and to the impact all employees have on our students.
If you are a current employee and you refer a teacher for the 2023-24 school year, you can earn $1,000 per hire (minus applicable taxes). This Referral Bonus is open to current NBOE staff only (exceptions apply, see guidelines below).
You must log into Google using your NBOE username and password to fill out the form.
How it Works
Complete the EMPLOYEE REFERRAL BONUS PROGRAM FORM for each candidate you refer.
Tell the candidate to apply online at TeachNewark.com. Ask the candidate you are referring to include your name in response to the question “How did you hear about us?” The candidate(s) must acknowledge that they were referred by you via the application prior to receiving an offer from the district.
For each referral we hire in the capacity of a teacher for the 2023-24 school year, you receive $1,000.
Ideal referred candidate:
Must hold a CE, CEAS, or Standard certification.
Must be in the process of getting certified through the traditional or alternate route and must have the correct certification issued at the time of hire.
Cannot be a current teacher in the district.
Referred candidates cannot be your direct report as a teacher at the time of hire.
Who is eligible to refer:
Current NBOE internal staff with the exception of the following individuals:
All hiring managers for teacher positions, such as, Principals, Vice Principals, D/Cs, HRS, Assistant Superintendents, CASA Members, Special Assistants, and Board Members are not eligible.
Can I get a bonus for more than one referral?
Yes! For each candidate referral who is hired, you will receive a single, non-recurring, one-time payment of $1,000 per hire.
When will I receive my bonus?
Once your referred teacher candidate has successfully completed 10 working months, you will receive a one-time payment either in February or June, whichever comes first after the referred candidate has completed their 10 working months with the district. Feel free to email Teach@nps.k12.nj.us with any questions/concerns related to this initiative.
If your referred candidate is hired for any school year beyond the 2023-24 school year, you will not receive any bonus. This program is only applicable for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years.
You will receive the bonus only if the referred person and the referrer are active employees at the time of payout. Payouts will not be made to individuals who have resigned from the district.
What if more than one individual gives a referral for the same person?
The first person to submit the referral and the name identified by the candidate will receive the bonus.
NOTE: The Newark Board of Education reserves the sole right to modify the terms of this referral bonus program without notice.
