As a Newark Board of Education employee, we believe you know better than anyone who can be successful here. You can speak to why our schools are a great place to work and to the impact all employees have on our students.

If you are a current employee and you refer BILINGUAL or ESL Teacher who gets hired as a full-time Bilingual or ESL teacher for the 2020-21 or 2021-22 school year you can earn $1000 per hire (minus applicable taxes). This referral Bonus is open to current NBOE staff only (exceptions apply, see guidelines below).

The Details

  • How it Works

    Complete the EMPLOYEE REFERRAL BONUS PROGRAM FORM for each candidate you refer.  All referrals must be submitted by July 30, 2021. 

    Tell the candidate to apply online at TeachNewark.com. Ask the candidate you are  referring to include your name in response to the question “How did you hear about us?” The candidate(s) must acknowledge that they were referred by you via the application.

    For each referral we hire in the capacity of Bilingual or ESL teacher for the 2020-21 or  2021-22 school year, you receive $1000.

    All referrals must be submitted between March 1, 2021 and July 30, 2021. Referrals made before March 1, 2021 or after July 30, 2021 will not be validated.

  • Ideal referred candidate:

    Must be certified Bilingual and/or ESL teacher who holds a CE,CEAS or Standard certification.

    Or:

    Must be in the process of getting certified through the traditional or alternate route and must have their Bilingual and/or ESL certification issued at the time of hire. 

    Cannot be a current teacher. 

    Referred candidates cannot be your direct report as a teacher during the time of hire. 

  • Who is eligible to refer:

    Current NBOE internal staff with the exception of the following individuals:

    All hiring managers for teacher positions, such as, Principals, Vice Principals, D/Cs, HRS, Assistant Superintendents, C-Suite Staff, Board Members are not eligible.

  • Can I get a bonus for more than one referral?

    Yes! For each candidate referral, who is hired by the district as a Bilingual or ESL teacher, you will receive a single, non-recurring, one-time payment of $1,000 per hire.

  • When will I receive my bonus?

    If your referred candidate is hired for the 2020-21 school year, you will receive a one- time payment in June 2021.

    If your referred candidate is hired for the 2021-22 school year, you will receive a one-time payment in June 2022.

    If your referred candidate is hired for any school year beyond 2020-21 or 2021-22 school year, you will not receive any bonus. This program is only applicable for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school year.

    You will receive the bonus only if the referred person is an active ESL or Bilingual Teacher at the time of payout.

  • What if more than one individual gives a referral for the same person?

    The first person to submit the referral and the name identified by the candidate will receive the bonus.

    NOTE: Newark Board of Education reserves the sole right to modify the terms of the BIL/ESL referral bonus program without notice.
